How to Conduct a Certification Survey | Healthcare Market Research Company

There are several certification programs available for healthcare professionals. For this reason, many healthcare organizations conduct certification surveys to measure the interest level of specific educational programs.

Objectives of the Certification Survey

A telehealth services organization contacted our market research company to conduct a study targeting gastroenterologists practicing in the United States.

The client often partners with gastroenterologists and other medical professionals who treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients.

Their mission is to further educate healthcare professionals through a proven multidisciplinary approach that builds resilience and psychosocial strength for improved health outcomes at a lower cost.

The objective of the survey was to measure the interest of healthcare professionals in becoming Certified IBD Specialists.

The results from the survey would be used to understand the value of the certification program and how they can best market it to practicing physicians.

Approach to the Certification Survey

After understanding the client’s objectives, our healthcare market research company recommended conducting an online certification survey with their stated target audience.

In our experience, online surveys are the best approach to capturing high-quality insights at an affordable cost.

What was the respondent criteria for the certification programs survey?

The respondent criteria for the certification survey included:

  • Physicians (MD)
  • Registered Nurses (RN)
  • Physician’s Assistants (PA)
  • Nurse Practitioners (NP)

All respondents had to currently treat patients with IBD, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Additionally, the healthcare professionals had to mainly practice in an academic hospital, a non-academic hospital, a private practice, or an outpatient facility.

What was the process for conducting the certification survey?

Our healthcare market research firm follows a streamlined process for our online survey projects. This assures results are delivered as quickly as possible.

1. A signed proposal.

Drive Research creates a custom proposal for our clients to review the scope of work, timeline, and deliverables.

2. Kickoff meeting.

A dedicated project team scheduled a 30 to 60-minute meeting with clients to further understand their objectives, goals, and specifications for the online survey

3. Survey design.

Our healthcare market research company creates questions for the survey based on the objectives of the client.

4. Survey program.

After the client approves of the survey script, our team programs the certification survey in an online software. The client will also receive a live dashboard to see up-to-the-second results once the survey is in fieldwork.

5. Fielding the survey.

The certification survey is sent to a small sample of respondents to assure it is working as intended. Shortly after, the certification survey is sent to the remaining sample of respondents.

6. Cleaning the data.

Once fieldwork is closed, Drive Research cleans the data and checks for any duplicate or illegitimate responses.

7. Survey reporting.

Based on the package requested by the client, our online survey company creates a report that can include an executive summary, infographic, recommendation, question-by-question analysis.

8. Debrief meeting.

Shortly after the market research report is drafted, your dedicated project team will schedule a meeting to review the findings page-by-page.

Certification Survey Analysis and Reporting

On average, the certification survey took providers 2-minutes to complete. It included 23-questions with a mix of both closed and open-ended questions. The results of the certification survey will remain private with our client.

The survey was successful in answering the following questions:

  • Based on the description of the telehealth-based IBD certification, please rate your interest in joining the certification program.
  • Why did you say you are interested in the certification program? (For those who selected a 4 or 5 rating)
